Q: WHO CAN I EXPECT TO BE GOING ON THE MISSION TRIP WITH ME?
Typically, the team is comprised of 4 to 12 members. Other members may include optometrists, optometry students, pre-optometry students, various health care professionals, and general volunteers.

Q: HOW LONG IS EACH MISSION TRIP?
A: Mission trips can range from 1 day to 3 weeks, depending on the location and whether it be a domestic or international trip.

Q: WILL I RECEIVE ANY TRAINING PRIOR TO THE MISSION TRIP?
A: A virtual training session is scheduled prior to the trip to prepare you to help patients and allow you to get to know your fellow team members you will be serving with. Typically a hands-on training session the morning of clinic will allow you to practice your skills before seeing patients.

Q: WHAT ARE THE LIVING ARRANGEMENTS?
A: STL will arrange housing in dormitories, church community centers, hotels or Airbnb’s. Most locations will have electricity and running water.

Q: WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE?
A: Clinic hours can vary from 4-10 hours a day, depending on the patient population. On a two-week trip, usually there are 10 clinic days and 4 free days allowed for travel and sightseeing.

Q: WHO LEADS EACH MISSION TRIP?
A: A U.S. licensed optometrist will lead each trip. See the Lord works diligently with the local organizations to maximize safety, efficiency, and charity.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES A MISSION TRIP COST?
A: The total cost for a mission trip varies from $0 to $3000 USD per person (including airfare). Local one-day trips typically do not require funding from volunteers. The amount includes all project costs, food, lodging, transportation, and donations to local hosts. The only expenses not covered are costs during sightseeing days, for example, costs of souvenirs.
For example, below were some of our mission trip costs for 2016:
April, Utah: $250 USD (without airfare)
May, Fresno: $150 USD
Aug, Taiwan: $1,750 USD (with airfare)
Dec, Taiwan: $2,300 USD (with airfare)

Q: HOW DO I APPLY FOR A MISSION TRIP?
A: Whether you are an optometrist, optometry student, college student or general volunteer, simply go to our Join Us web page and fill out a Registration Form. Once you have filled the form out, the Operations Team will review the application and you will receive an email shortly with their decision after the official application deadline.
